C.J. Cherryh's Union-Alliance novels, while separate and complete in themselves, are part of a much larger tapestry-a future history spanning 5,000 years of human civilization.
Downbelow Station is the book that won Cherryh a Hugo Award for Best Novel in 1982. A blockbuster space opera of the rebellion between Earth and its far-flung colonies, it is a classic science fiction masterwork.
What an imagination she has. Again reading out of order has done no harm. It's rather fun reading the start of a storyline that you've completed in a later novel. Not tired of the series yet.
I haven't been reading as much this month but I've watch movies:
Leatherheads - with George Clooney and Renee Zellwinger a so-so football movie. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0379865/
Definitely Maybe - a better than average romantic/comedy. Good script. Decent acting http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0832266/
Wanted - pure fun. It was strange hearing James McAvoy with an American accent http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0493464/
State of Play - A 6 part Brit TV series centred around politics and newspapers that was excellent.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0362192/
And last but not least the things I didn't finish:
Heir to Sevenwaters - Juliet Marillier continuing from Sevenwaters trilogy I had read all the previous books in this series but just couldn't develop enough interest in the characters or story to read to the end.
Brideshead Revisited DVD - found it dreary and poorly acted so turned it off.
Sergeant Cribbs..brit series DVD - overacting and poor sound put an end to this
Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day DVD - frantic mad dash attempt at a 1930's style romp that didn't make it at all.
Aftermath - Peter Robinson - female abuse and murder that was a little too realistic, having some foundation in a gruesome case that happen in our area back in the 90's.
