SEARCH THE DARK: CHARLES TODD

Amazon.com Review
On his way to Lyme Regis to search for work, Bert looks out of the train window in a town called Singleton Magna, and sees an unbelievable sight--his wife and two children who he thought were killed in a London bombing raid. He leaps off the train and tries to find his family, racing desperately across fields and country roads, and finally winding up asleep under a tree. Meanwhile, the battered body of a woman is found on the edge of a cornfield, and Mowbray is arrested. Is the woman his wife? Did he kill her? And what happened to the two children who were with her?

Easy books to pick up and put down and thankfully there are more to keep me in reading material.

SALVATION CREEK: SUSAN DUNCAN non fiction
Product Description
At age 44, Susan Duncan appeared to have it all. Editor of two of Australia's top selling women's magazines, a happy marriage, a jetsetting lifestyle covering stories from New York to Greenland, rubbing shoulders with Hollywood royalty, the world was her oyster. But when her beloved husband and brother died within three days of each other, her glittering life shattered. In shock, she zipped on her work face and soldiered on—until one morning 18 months later when she simply could not get out of bed. Heartbreaking, funny, and honest, this is the story of a woman who found the courage not only to walk away from a successful career and begin again, but to beat the odds in her own battle for survival and find a new life—and love—in a tiny waterside idyll cut off from the outside world. From the terrifying first step of quitting the job that had always anchored her to abandoning herself to a passionate affair, Duncan never flinches from the truth or loses her wicked sense of humor—even when she finds a paradise on earth only to discover that it may be too late.

Enjoyed it so much I ordered the follow up book. This was a gift from Tracey.

LEGACY OF THE DEAD: CHARLES TODD

From Library Journal
A sensitive approach, literate prose, and provocative situations mark Todd's latest addition to his Ian Rutledge series. Although recovered enough from World War I shell shock to function ably in his job with Scotland Yard, Ian still carries with him an internal voice of guilt named Hamish, a soldier he ordered shot for cowardice. When Ian investigates a possible murder in Scotland, the main suspect turns out to be the dead Hamish's intended, who seems destined for the gallows but will not betray a confidence. Very forceful emotional scenes ensue as Ian ferrets out the truth. A special treat for series and historical fans.

LA'S ORCHESTRA SAVES THE WORLD: ALEXANDER McCALL SMITH

Product Description
La's Orchestra Saves the World is another delightful story celebrating friendship and the healing power of music, told with the warmth and charm we've come to love from this favourite storyteller.

It's 1939 and the war in Europe casts a long, all-encompassing shadow. In a sleepy town in Suffolk, La, the generous and determined widow, forms an amateur orchestra to entertain the locals and soothe her own broken heart. She recruits Feliks, a refugee from Poland, to play the flute, and a touching friendship emerges. When the war is over and the orchestra disbands, La is left pondering her next move. What role can she play in her community now that the war is over? And can she let herself love again?

I'm not a fan of his other books but thought I'd try this one. It was ok but for some reason this author doesn't write stories that interest or hold me although he is very popular.

IN SEARCH OF IRELAND: H.V. MORTON

A wonderful look at Ireland just after the split north and south with historical details are a part of what makes Morton's work so enjoyable. I had an interesting time reviewing the now after reading the then ( 1930 ). I continue hunting down more of his work.
